Hey everybody, sorry it’s been so long since the last update. I lost track of time, it actually started going by fast for a change. I left August 7th for my two weeks of R&R leave back to the States. It ended up taking almost a month because of all the traveling back in forth. I love America. It was great seeing my family, and beer still tastes delicious. I had a good time. The only problem was all the decisions you have to make about where to eat! But I had a great time. It’s hard getting back on the plane to come back out here, but you gotta do what you gotta do. The temperature is cooling down a lot out here, today the high was only about 108, and hopefully it will keep dropping.

Mr. Hain from Australia, I know I said I would post your question on here a month and a half ago, sorry it took so long but I’ll do it now. He wants to know if I’ve met any Australians out here and what I think about them. There’s a vehicle we always see on base. I don’t know how to describe it. It’s about 10ft tall, 4 wheels, and has more armor on it than most tanks. Then on the back it has a yellow sign that says “Caution: Kangaroo crossing”. Those were the first Australians I saw out here. A few months ago I sprained my ankle and I was hobbling around on crutches, a car full of Australians was driving by and gave me a ride down to the chow hall. I also met several Australians down in Kuwait on my way back here a few days ago. Two other Marines and I were joking about how it’s good to have an armorer as a friend. If you’re turning in your rifle and “accidentally” leave a $20 bill in the magazine well, it might magically clean itself for you. Pretty neat trick. Two of the Australians overheard us and said “Hell no mate, if we did that they’d keep the 20 and tell you to clean your damn weapon!” I have to find out what type of rifles they were carrying too, the things were almost all plastic and I swear they looked like toys. Then I saw one with an M203 (grenade launcher) under the barrel and decided maybe they were real. So, to answer the question, I have a very favorable impression of the Australians. They all seem like great people.

That’s all I’ve got for now, keep sending questions and I’ll answer them. Thanks for reading, and sorry if I kept anybody waiting.
