First off, I wanna say thanks to everybody who wrote regarding Cpl Bachar. I got a couple emails from a friend who knew him in high school, as well as a few from his cousin’s husband. I appreciate everybody who took the time to say what a great guy he was, and it goes without saying that I’m sorry for your loss.
One thing that I may not have been clear about, judging from the emails I got, is this: I’m not worried about Salem being forgotten by anybody, I know I won’t. What makes me mad about the whole situation is that 80% of Americans can probably tell you who Cindy Sheehan is. How many people know her son’s name? How many people know that his gravesite, 2 years later, doesn’t even have a headstone honoring him (http://www.snopes.com/politics/war/sheehangrave.asp)? It makes me mad that the media, at least nationally, would rather focus on stories about the mom who hates the Bush administration for getting her son killed, instead of on the thousands of other families who have suffered silently with more dignity and respect for the ones they lost. That’s what makes me mad. These people are the ones who deserve recognition, in my opinion.
I also received a lot of emails about different ways Cpl Bachar has been recognized. I’ve been told by a friend who has been contacted by a reporter from the L.A. Times that the paper is going to do a story about him. That’s great. Also, a motorcycle group called the Patriot Guard Riders sponsors rides to recognize fallen military members. Here are some pictures from the ride they dedicated to Cpl Bachar:LINK . This site is also dedicated to him:LINK I definitely did not mean to imply that nobody cares, and these sites show that’s not the case at all.
I’ll make a longer post in the next week or so, we’ve been swamped with work lately. Our van decided to pretty much explode one piece of gear at a time on us.
Thanks to everybody who’s been emailing, keep it up, I enjoy hearing from you.
