Well, we're heading out tomorrow (Friday the 17th). That's also my mom's birthday, so she isn't too thrilled about it! It takes several days to fly over, because of all the stops we have to make along the way. Also if there's sandstorms or anything, we'll be delayed.

I thought I'd be pretty nervous by now, but I'm not. There's just too much stuff to get done, and not enough time to do it. In fact, I just want to get over there so I can get this year over with. That makes it sound like I don't wanna go. I do, but a year is a long damn time!

I've spent most of today trying to pack all my crap. It's incredible the amount of shit they make us bring, and I don't even know if I can fit it all yet! And it's all freakin HEAVY too. Here's just an idea of some of the stuff we have to carry: Rifle (obviously), helmet, flak jacket (with armor plates), ammo pouches, magazines, first aid kit, two canteens, gas mask, sleeping system (basically two sleeping bags and a case), e-tool (mini-shovel), goggles, poncho/poncho liner, Goretex jacket/pants, 2 extra sets of cammies besides the ones we'll be wearing, an extra pair of boots, personal hygiene gear, waterproofing bag, flashlight, extra undershirts/underwear/socks etc..., running shoes, fleece jacket, beanie, cold weather gear (for the nights), and I probably only named half of it. Somehow it's all supposed to fit into two seabags (big duffel bags). I'll know if it actually does soon.

I'm still really excited, and I get more excited whenever I think about how close I am to leaving. It's definitely gonna be one of those experiences in life I'll never forget. The next update will be from Iraq!

By the way, if you're reading this Amber, I love you!!!
