What's up Fugly Nation? I'm Cpl. Donald T. and I'm a US Marine. Since I don’t want to tell anyone my real name just yet, the folks at Fugly.com have agreed to just call me Donnie.
I'm about to be headed to Iraq sometime in the next month. Jeff asked me to be the official Fugly War Correspondent, so here I am.
I've been in the Marine Corps just under 4 years. I spent 1 year in Okinawa, Japan and about a year and a half in Quantico, Virginia.
My job is fixing electronics, so hopefully I'll be spending most of my time "in the rear with the gear".
My main goal is to let all of you know what it's really like over there. It seems like the news only reports on the bad stuff that's happening, since that gets more people to watch (or buy papers for you old fashioned people). Unlike them, I don't have an agenda. I just want people to see what it's like for the average Marine/soldier over there, screw politics and all that crap.
I'm honestly very excited about having the opportunity to go to the "Sandbox". I don't plan on reenlisting, and I would've been pretty mad if I never got to do my part. The hardest part of all this is leaving my wife for a year. I just got married Jan. 20th when I found out I was leaving (we were already planning it, we just moved it up a couple months). So that part definitely sucks, but I guess it's all part of the job.
Anyway, I'll do my best to keep you all updated, and hopefully I'll have some interesting stories to tell (but not too interesting!). And a big thanks to Jeff and Fugly.com for giving me a place to ramble!
